Lamine Yamal breaks Champions League records and enters Ballon d'Or race

Lamine Yamal continues to set historic milestones for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team. At 19 years old, the forward has become the youngest player to reach 50 goals for a club in Europe’s top five leagues. In the UEFA Champions League, Yamal has recorded 21 goal involvements (11 goals and 10 assists), surpassing the previous teenage record held by Kylian Mbappé.

Yamal also recently became the youngest player to score a direct free-kick in the Champions League for a La Liga club. His recent performances, including a standout display in a 5-1 victory over Feyenoord, have solidified his position as a top contender for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick and club president Joan Laporta have both publicly endorsed his candidacy, with Flick describing him as an “extraordinary” and “special” player.

Yamal has also taken on increased leadership responsibilities, recently serving as Barcelona captain at age 19. He was named to the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or, with the winner to be announced in London on October 26, 2026.
