Lamine Yamal targeted by verbal provocation during Barcelona match

During a recent La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Getafe, Getafe defender Abdel Abqar attempted to provoke Barcelona star Lamine Yamal by making comments regarding his North African heritage. Abqar reportedly told Yamal, “Lamine, Lamine, you want to play for Morocco,” a reference to Yamal’s father being Moroccan and his mother being from Equatorial Guinea.

Yamal, who has represented Spain at various levels and achieved success in the UEFA European Championship and FIFA World Cup, remained focused on the match and continued to engage with the referee despite the provocation. While Yamal has previously acknowledged the possibility of playing for Morocco due to his roots, he has expressed a strong connection to Spain, stating, “I have grown up here, and I feel that this is my country.”

Separately, FC Barcelona continues its strong La Liga campaign, maintaining a significant historical advantage over Racing Santander, with the club entering their upcoming fixture having not lost to them in 17 league meetings.
