Lamitan City shooting targets son-in-law of BARMM candidate

A businessman was shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Sitio Riverside, Barangay Matibay, Lamitan City, on Friday evening, September 11. The victim, identified as Halid Dompol Mujanil, was shot in the stomach while outside his residence. A second individual, Efren Salahuddin Custodio, was struck in the leg by a stray bullet while passing through the area.

Mujanil is reportedly the son-in-law of Rima Hassan, a candidate for Member of Parliament representing Lamitan City District 1. The attack occurred just three days before the scheduled BARMM Parliamentary Election on September 14.

Lamitan City Police are investigating the incident. While authorities have not yet established a definitive motive, police are verifying whether the shooting is politically motivated or an isolated incident. Law enforcement has launched hot pursuit and dragnet operations to locate the unidentified suspects, who fled the scene on a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle.
