Lampedusa healthcare bolstered by military housing agreement
The ASP di Palermo has established a formal agreement with the 134° Centro Radar Remoto of the Italian Air Force to support healthcare services on the island of Lampedusa. Under this arrangement, nursing staff traveling from outside the island can utilize the military radar center's facilities for meals and accommodation.
This initiative aims to address the logistical and housing challenges that often make it difficult to recruit and retain medical personnel in the Pelagie Islands. By providing single or double rooms and access to the center's canteen, the agreement helps ensure continuity of care for the local community. Alberto Firenze, Director General of the ASP di Palermo, noted that this support also strengthens the Decentralized Oncology Service project by facilitating the presence of necessary medical staff on the island.
