Lampung officials inspect Way Kambas to ensure elephant safety

Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal and Major General TNI Kristomei Sianturi, Commander of the XXI/Radin Inten Military Regional Command, inspected the Way Kambas National Park to ensure the Sumatran elephant population remains safe from forest and land fires.

Officials confirmed that the elephants are healthy and unaffected by recent fire concerns. Mitigation efforts include intensive monitoring through joint command posts involving the military and police, as well as weather modification operations.

To manage potential threats, authorities are utilizing advanced technology, such as thermal drones, to detect hotspots and facilitate rapid response via water bombing. Officials have urged the public to support conservation efforts and cease illegal activities such as poaching and land clearing.
