Indonesian police dismantle international etomidate smuggling syndicate

Indonesian authorities, led by Bareskrim Polri and Customs at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, have dismantled an international drug syndicate involving the smuggling of etomidate. The operation resulted in the seizure of five kilograms of etomidate powder, which was being used to produce liquid for vape pods.

Six individuals were arrested in connection with the scheme: five Malaysian citizens who acted as couriers and one Chinese national, Wu Song, who was linked to a clandestine laboratory in North Jakarta. The Malaysian suspects arrived from Kuala Lumpur on AirAsia flight QZ201, concealing the powder within the insoles of their shoes.

Investigations revealed that the group was coordinated via Telegram by an individual known as 'Madam.' The seized drugs have an estimated value of 127.5 billion Indonesian Rupiah. Authorities also recovered significant quantities of raw chemical materials and thousands of empty vape pods at the laboratory site. The Indonesian government is currently considering new regulations to prevent the use of liquid narcotics in electronic cigarettes.
