Lan Chi, veteran Taiwanese actress, passes away at 74
Veteran Taiwanese actress Lan Chi, born Chen Pi-chih, has passed away at the age of 74. Reports indicate she died at her home on September 22.
Lan Chi was a prominent figure during the golden age of Taiwanese television, particularly active between the late 1960s and the 1970s. Known for her expressive features and versatile acting, she was a leading star for CTS, performing in both Mandarin and Taiwanese language dramas. Her notable works include ‘San Feng Zhen Wu Lin’, ‘Zhen Jia A Xi’, and the classic Taiwanese series ‘Zou Ma Deng’.
After reaching the peak of her career, she transitioned away from the spotlight to focus on family and a career in jewelry appraisal, inspired by her brother’s jewelry manufacturing business. She made a brief return to acting in 1984 in the family drama ‘Ai De Zhen Di’. Following her divorce, she lived a quiet life in Tamsui and elsewhere, focusing on reading, singing, and gardening.
A memorial service is scheduled to be held on October 13 at the Taipei Municipal Huai Ai Hall.
