Lance Stroll sets F1 record with 100 Q1 eliminations

Lance Stroll has set a Formula 1 record for the most Q1 eliminations, becoming the first driver to exit the first qualifying segment 100 times since the current three-part system was introduced in 2006. During qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the Aston Martin driver finished 22nd.

Stroll noted that the team's performance was expected due to a lack of power, stating, “We’re three seconds off, so we’re not going to stay with the pack tomorrow.” Despite recent engine upgrades from Honda, Aston Martin continues to struggle with top speed, showing a significant deficit compared to competitors like Mercedes on the Monza straights.

Stroll's teammate, Fernando Alonso, also struggled during the session, qualifying 19th after his lap was cut short by a technical issue. Alonso indicated that the team is investigating the matter, noting that the lack of pace on straights makes the circuit particularly difficult for their current car setup.
