Lancelin receives $1.1m for coastal erosion protection

The Western Australian State Government has committed $1.1 million to combat rapid coastal erosion threatening the dune system in Lancelin. This funding, combined with $152,750 from the Shire of Gingin, will support a project costing approximately $1.2 million to install a temporary protective barrier.

The proposed structure will consist of a 110-metre long and 4.5-metre high barrier made of four-tonne rock bags. Designed by coastal engineers and the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure, the barrier is intended to provide protection for roughly five years. This interim measure aims to secure the coastline before the next winter storm season while authorities investigate permanent long-term solutions.
