Lancet Commission identifies 14 factors to influence dementia risk

Research identified by the Lancet Commission suggests that up to 45 percent of dementia cases could potentially be prevented or delayed by addressing 14 specific risk factors. While not all instances of the disease can be avoided, many factors are within an individual's control through lifestyle changes, prevention, or medical treatment.

Key factors influencing brain health include educational attainment, which helps build cognitive reserve, and hearing loss, which can lead to social withdrawal. Maintaining mental stimulation throughout life is emphasized as a critical component of long-term cognitive health.
