Lancia prepares new Gamma model debut and honors brand history

Lancia is preparing for the debut of the new Gamma model, expected to be unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The vehicle aims to reposition the brand in a higher market segment following the release of the new Ypsilon. A notable design feature includes two fins above the rear window, which serve both an aerodynamic purpose and a stylistic tribute to the historical “veneziana” sunshade found on classic models like the Lancia Beta HPE and the original Gamma.

Historically, the brand traces its origins to 1906 when Vincenzo Lancia and Claudio Fogolin founded the company in Turin. Their first significant model, the Lancia 12 HP (originally Tipo 51), debuted at the 1908 Turin Motor Show. This early vehicle featured a modern low-slung chassis and a cardan shaft transmission. The 12 HP utilized a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 28 CV, capable of reaching speeds of 90 km/h. The use of Greek alphabet designations, such as Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, began in 1919.
