Lanciano commemorates 1943 uprising martyrs
The municipality of Lanciano and the National Association of Italian Partisans (Anpi) are organizing commemorations for the 83rd anniversary of the October 5 and 6, 1943, uprising. The events honor the Lanciano martyrs who fought against Nazifascism, an act of resistance that earned the city a gold medal for military valor.
On Monday, October 5, a mass will be held at the Shrine of the October Martyrs. Following the service, Anpi will honor the descendants of 11 partisans killed in combat and 12 civilians killed in reprisals. Specific individuals to be remembered include Tommaso Miscia, vice commander Carlo Schonheim, Dr. Ferdinando Cipollone, Dr. Oscar De Cecco, and Ida Bellamino in Sargiacomo.
A formal institutional procession is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, beginning at the old station and concluding at the monument in Piazza Martiri Lancia.
