Land dispute triggers violence in La Marquesa

A long-standing land dispute between the communities of San Pedro Atlapulco and San Jerónimo Acazulco escalated into violence on September 24 in the La Marquesa region of Ocoyoacac.

The confrontation occurred near Valle del Silencio and Valle del Conejo. Members of San Pedro Atlapulco were reportedly performing maintenance and cleaning tasks when residents from San Jerónimo Acazulco mobilized, leading to a blockade of the La Marquesa-Tenango road. The situation escalated from verbal arguments to physical violence involving stones and sticks.

Reports and videos indicated the presence of firearms and gunfire during the clash, including an incident where a person allegedly fired a machine gun at a commercial stall. While gunshots were heard, authorities reported that the four injured individuals from the Acazulco community sustained injuries from physical blows rather than bullets.

Security forces, including the National Guard, State Police, and municipal officers, arrived at the scene to manage the unrest. The Secretary General of Government and the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office were notified following reports of armed individuals.
