Land disputes intensify in Ghana and Nigeria

In Ghana, the Ogbe Assumeng Family has issued a 21-day ultimatum to individuals, companies, and developers occupying land in Yongwasi, located in the Shai Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region. The family demands that occupants regularize their claims, citing an increase in encroachment, trespassing, and unauthorized sales. Legal representative Prof. Dennis Sayram Benson asserted that the land is private family property, supported by a 1923 Certificate of Purchase, and has been held by the family for over a century.

Simultaneously, in Nigeria, the Ikangba-Agoro-Imodi-Amosan communities in Ogun State have called on the state government and security agencies to investigate land grabbers and authenticate court judgments involved in a protracted land dispute. Community leaders requested that the Police, Department of State Services, and the Anti-Land Grabbing Task Force conduct impartial investigations to prevent intimidation and the use of force or heavy machinery to settle ownership claims during ongoing legal processes.
