Land fire burns 1.5 hectares in Dompak, Tanjungpinang

A land fire covering approximately 1.5 hectares occurred in the Dompak area of Bukit Bestari District, Tanjungpinang, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The blaze was first spotted by a resident around 11:45 WIB in the Kampung Dompak Seberang area.

Local police from the Bukit Bestari Sector Police, the Tanjungpinang Fire Department, and local residents worked together to combat the flames. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 14:00 WIB to conduct firefighting and cooling operations, eventually extinguishing the fire by 15:55 WIB. No casualties or material losses were reported, though the fire destroyed roughly 15,000 square meters of vacant land.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, as no witnesses have come forward to identify anyone involved in the ignition. Bukit Bestari Police Chief Kompol Suardi urged the public to remain vigilant against land fires, particularly due to wind conditions, and advised against improper waste burning or discarding cigarettes in open areas.
