Land Forces expo opens in Perth with heavy security
The Land Forces defence expo has commenced in Perth, Western Australia, under heavy security. The Cook government allocated $11.5 million for security measures following previous protests at the 2024 Victorian expo. New legislative powers allow Western Australia Police to ban activists from entering a designated security zone around the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Security presence includes heavily armed public order police at entrances, with attendees required to present identification and passes. While a small group of protesters gathered outside the security zone on Tuesday morning, the WA Anti-War Collective has scheduled a protest and march for Tuesday evening.
The event features 964 exhibitors, including major companies such as Boeing, BAE Systems, and Thales. A significant technological focus of this year's expo is autonomy and artificial intelligence. Thales unveiled the BladeHAUL, a remote and autonomous diesel-electric hybrid vehicle.
