Land Rover introduces V8 conversion for classic Defender models

Land Rover’s Classic division has announced the Works V8 Conversion, a program designed to install a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine into Puma-era L316 Defender 90 and 110 models. The engine produces 405 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

The V8 engine installation is specifically available for models manufactured between 2012 and 2016. However, a broader upgrade program covering suspension, wheels, brakes, and chassis hardware is available for a wider range of L316 models produced between 2007 and 2016. The mechanical upgrades include Bilstein dampers, Eibach coil springs, and an Alcon braking system featuring four-piston calipers.

Customers can choose between 16-inch steel wheels or 18-inch alloys, along with interior updates such as a redesigned gear tunnel and Works V8 badging. Dominic Elms, director of JLR Classic, stated the program offers flexibility to serve owners using the vehicles as family companions, workhorses, or collector items. Installations are managed through Classic Works facilities in the United Kingdom and Germany.
