Land Rover expands Defender range with hybrid, electric and new Classic models

Land Rover Classic unveiled new options for its Classic Defender V8, adding a 110 Double Cab Pick‑Up, a 90 Hard Top, a 9‑inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a bespoke colour scheme for a limited four‑vehicle set built for a single customer.

The company also confirmed development of a new, smaller Defender Sport built on the EMA platform that will be offered with both hybrid and fully electric powertrains. The model will retain standard four‑wheel drive and off‑road capability, although its wheel travel may be reduced compared to current Defender versions.

At the same time, Land Rover has postponed the launch of an all‑electric Defender and Evoque, opting instead for a flexible strategy that includes hybrids and extended‑range electric variants such as the forthcoming Freelander 8, developed in partnership with Geely. This reflects the brand’s response to differing market demand in regions like the UK, the United States and Europe.
