Land Rover recalls 250,000 vehicles globally over airbag defect

Jaguar Land Rover has issued a global recall for more than 250,000 vehicles due to a potential defect in the driver-side airbag connector. The issue stems from repeated movement and friction at the connection point, which can lead to corrosion over time. This corrosion may compromise the electrical circuit, potentially preventing the airbag from deploying correctly during an accident.

The defect was identified following an increase in driver complaints regarding airbag warning lights. An investigation launched in August 2025 and subsequent testing in March 2026 confirmed the presence of corrosion on certain connectors. Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC has submitted the official recall report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In Mauritius, the Ministry of Commerce has advised owners of affected models to contact authorized dealers immediately. The recall includes several recent generations of the following models:

• Range Rover: Produced between July 2021 and June 2026 • Discovery: Produced between September 2020 and June 2026 • Defender: Produced between October 2019 and May 2026

The corrective measure involves applying a protective gel to the connector terminals free of charge. No replacement parts are required for this procedure.
