Land Rover tests new Defender prototypes and expands model lineup
Land Rover is expanding its Defender lineup with several new models and powertrain options. Prototypes of a smaller, compact five-door version—potentially named the Defender Sport or Defender 80—have been spotted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring. While originally conceived as an all-electric model, the automaker has shifted plans to also include a hybrid version.
Other developments in the Defender series include the upcoming Wolf Series II military vehicles and a potential Land Rover Defender pickup truck, which may result from a collaborative deal between JLR and Stellantis to manufacture models in the United States.
In practical application, the current Defender 110 continues to serve as a long-distance vehicle, featuring mild-hybrid and twin-turbo diesel engine options. Recent testing of the 110 model demonstrated its capability for long-range travel, maintaining comfort and digital integration via the Pivi infotainment system.
