Land Rover unveils Defender Wolf Series II for UK military contract

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has introduced the Defender Wolf Series II, a new generation of light military vehicles developed by its specialized Defender Defence Division. The vehicle is positioned to compete for a major contract with the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence, which aims to replace aging Land Rover and Pinzgauer fleets with over 9,500 new vehicles.

The Ministry of Defence requires a modular platform capable of supporting nine different configurations, including field ambulances, tactical vehicles, command versions, and armored variants. The contract is expected to include long-term maintenance, repair, and logistics support throughout the fleet's lifecycle.

To ensure durability, the Defender Wolf Series II underwent approximately 62,000 tests, including JLR’s internal Extreme Event Test. The vehicle has already demonstrated its off-road capabilities at the Dakar Rally and during trials at an independent Ministry of Defence testing ground, where it reportedly was the only candidate to successfully navigate all obstacles. Visible modifications include steel bumpers, headlight grilles, raised air intakes for wading, and reinforced wheels with high-profile tires. Land Rover plans to officially present four versions—ambulance, logistics, general purpose, and tactical mobility—at the British Army Defence and Security Equipment Convention later this month.
