Land Transport Regulatory Commission addresses Mafraq transport gaps

The Land Transport Regulatory Commission has announced executive measures to address gaps in public transportation services within the Mafraq Governorate. Engineer Riyadh Al-Kharabsheh, Director General of the Commission, stated that certain areas in Mafraq are currently underserved or have experienced service interruptions because operating in these locations is not economically viable for individual operators due to high costs.

To resolve this, the Commission is working to enable operators to maintain services without increasing costs for citizens. One proposed solution involves deploying smaller 14-passenger buses to ensure regular and accessible transport. A nationwide program is underway to facilitate this transition, with 5 million dinars allocated for the current year and another 5 million dinars earmarked for 2025. Success in the upcoming phases will depend on meeting specific operational indicators.

Ali Al-Shammari, the Commission's office director in Mafraq, noted that the governorate currently has 418 public vehicles operating across its network. As part of the corrective measures, medium-sized vehicles on the Mafraq-Al-Manshiya route have been converted into 24 small public service vehicles (servis), and the Mafraq-Al-Dajniya route has been converted into 6 small service vehicles to address low passenger volumes.
