Landesmusikverband Rheinland-Pfalz calls for cultural funding law

The Landesmusikverband Rheinland-Pfalz (LMV) has expressed support for the use of special funds to provide financial relief to municipalities, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen local cultural infrastructure.

Dr. Norbert Herhammer, the new president of the LMV, emphasized that cultural life relies heavily on communal facilities such as community centers, rehearsal rooms, and event halls. He noted that amateur music groups, including brass bands and marching bands, depend on these municipal buildings for rehearsals, youth work, and performances.

While welcoming the financial relief for cities and towns, the LMV is calling for the implementation of a binding cultural funding law (Kulturfördergesetz). The association argues that funding must move beyond individual projects to ensure the long-term maintenance and modernization of the structures that make cultural life possible. The LMV seeks to transition cultural funding from a voluntary municipal task to a more reliable and permanent framework, a goal previously agreed upon in the state government's coalition agreement.
