Landesuntersuchungsamt construction costs rise to 144 million euros

The construction of the new Landesuntersuchungsamt (LUA) building in Koblenz has faced significant delays and massive cost increases. The approved budget for the project has risen to 144 million euros, a substantial jump from the original estimate of 50 to 60 million euros.

Project complications began after the structural shell was completed in 2019. Issues included the termination of an engineering firm due to poor planning performance and the bankruptcy of a key plumbing and sanitation contractor.

A new European-wide tender process was restarted in March 2026. Following negotiations that began in August, the Ministry of Construction and Municipal Affairs expects to conclude the procurement process by mid-October. Construction may resume once a new company is officially commissioned.
