Landgoed Hoevelaken to expand with 20 hectares of new nature

The Hoevelaken estate, a protected and monumental forest area, will be expanded by 20 hectares of new nature on its eastern and western sides. The project, led by the Municipality of Nijkerk, Geldersch Landschap en Kasteelen, and construction company Van de Mheen, aims to balance nature conservation with increasing recreational demand.

Due to rising visitor numbers, the expansion is designed to provide more habitat for local flora and fauna while better distributing visitors to reduce pressure on the existing forest. The development will include new walking paths, winding lanes, and a new equestrian path in the eastern section.

Work on the eastern side is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with completion expected by May 2027. The planning process follows a design expansion plan established in 2024 and planning procedures initiated in 2025.
