Landlord suspected of rape and benefit fraud flees to Cameroon

Ndumbe Achile Ndumbe, a 41-year-old landlord, has fled to Cameroon while under investigation by Greater Manchester Police for suspected rape. Despite being on police bail and having a history of travel between the UK and Cameroon, Ndumbe was permitted to retain his passport and is believed to have flown from Manchester Airport in January.

In addition to the criminal investigation, Ndumbe is accused of significant benefit fraud. He reportedly owes taxpayers approximately £200,000, having falsely claimed up to £180,000 in housing benefits while operating multiple occupation properties near Manchester. He also faced a £26,000 fine following prosecution by Wigan Council for renting properties without required licenses.

Sources have cited “multiple failures in the system” involving the police, border authorities, and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Reports suggest Ndumbe may have continued to claim Personal Independence Payments (PIP) for mental health and physical issues after leaving the country. Police are currently working with Cameroonian authorities in an attempt to locate and extradite him.
