Lando Norris apologizes to Franco Colapinto after Azerbaijan GP collision

McLaren driver Lando Norris has issued a public apology to Alpine driver Franco Colapinto following a heated controversy after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The dispute began when Colapinto caused a collision during a Safety Car restart on lap 36, involving both Colapinto and his teammate Pierre Gasly, as well as Norris.

Initially, Norris criticized Colapinto’s driving, suggesting that certain drivers “shouldn’t be in Formula 1” and calling for a one-race ban due to the carelessness of the incident. However, Norris later clarified on social media that “emotions were very high” and admitted he was wrong, noting that he had sent Colapinto a private apology. He emphasized that both drivers remain on good terms.

Colapinto also apologized for the error, citing cold brakes and tires as reasons for losing control. As a consequence of the incident, Colapinto has been handed a five-place grid penalty for the upcoming race. The next Formula 1 event will be held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, serving as the Bahrain Grand Prix due to regional circumstances in the Middle East.
