McLaren drivers collide during Singapore Grand Prix Sprint

McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were involved in a collision during the Singapore Grand Prix Sprint race. On the final lap, Norris attempted an aggressive overtake on the inside of Turn 5, resulting in contact that caused Piastri to retire from the race. While FIA stewards ruled the contact as a racing incident with no single party at fault, McLaren leadership reacted strongly.

Team Principal Andrea Stella described the incident as “unacceptable,” prompting internal discussions regarding driver conduct and team unity. McLaren CEO Zak Brown issued a direct order to the drivers to prevent similar occurrences, emphasizing that such collisions are unnecessary for the team's championship goals.

Following the incident, Norris initially defended his maneuver but later issued a full apology to the team, stating, “I should never have tried it in the first in place. I just need to think more about the team I represent than about myself.” During the main Grand Prix on Sunday, the pair showed improved cooperation, with Norris assisting Piastri during the race, a move that Stella noted was a positive step toward a more united team dynamic.
