Lando Norris discusses mental health and self-reliance
Formula 1 champion Lando Norris has addressed his ongoing journey with mental health and self-confidence. The McLaren driver reflected on his career struggles, noting that he previously faced significant self-doubt, even describing himself as ‘useless’ following poor qualifying sessions in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia during his 2025 campaign.
Norris emphasized that his primary motivation is proving his capabilities to himself rather than seeking external validation. He stated, “I don’t care about what others can prove to me; I prefer to be the one to achieve things myself.” He noted that while there is an expectation for high performance from his team and the public, he feels a growing internal conviction that allows him to question himself less.
The British driver also touched upon the difficulty of believing in his own potential, noting that he struggled to believe he could win a race or a world championship until he actually achieved those milestones.
