Lando Norris suffers second retirement at Monaco GP due to Mercedes power‑unit failure

British driver Lando Norris was forced to retire from the Monaco Grand Prix after a Mercedes power‑unit failure brought his McLaren MCL40 to a halt on lap 45 of 78. Norris said he heard abnormal sounds from the engine, turbo and battery before the car stopped, and despite several in‑car adjustments the problem persisted, leading the team to revert to previous settings before the final failure.

The retirement marks his second consecutive race ending in mechanical trouble, leaving him 98 points behind championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Norris emphasized the need for McLaren to understand the car's inconsistent performance and develop a more versatile package, while also noting the team's broader issues with grip, downforce and reliability that have hampered point‑scoring opportunities this season.
