Lando Norris rebukes rivals over Formula 1 upgrade criticism

Norris said, “Drivers talk too much. They don’t understand what we’re doing. They’re not the accountants.” He added that closing the performance gap requires efficiency and multiple development steps, not a single upgrade.

Team principal Andrea Stella echoed the need for greater intensity, urging McLaren to accelerate its aerodynamic and engine work to catch rivals such as Ferrari and Red Bull. The remarks were made after Norris qualified sixth for the Austrian Grand Prix, highlighting the ongoing development race in the new 2026 regulatory era.
