Lando Norris Wins Hungarian GP as McLaren Upgrade Shifts F1 Balance

Lando Norris secured his first victory of the 2026 season at the Hungarian Grand Prix, converting pole position—won by a margin of 0.012 seconds over Lewis Hamilton—into a dominant win that placed him 15 seconds ahead of second‑place Max Verstappen. The triumph marked McLaren's first Grand Prix win of the year and highlighted the impact of a significant upgrade package introduced to the MCL40 chassis.

Mercedes deputy technical director Simone Resta acknowledged the upgrade’s role, stating it was a "sizeable update" that affected McLaren’s performance, but also emphasized Norris’s execution, noting the driver’s superior pace and tyre management. Former driver David Coulthard praised the performance as a "true world champion’s" effort. Teammate Oscar Piastri retired after a gearbox failure following contact with Williams driver Carlos Sainz, leaving Norris to dominate the remainder of the race.
