Lando Norris wins Monaco Grand Prix after earlier battery failure

During the free‑practice session for the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, McLaren driver Lando Norris suffered a sudden loss of power when the car's steering wheel went dead, forcing him to stop in the tunnel near the chicane. Team principal Zak Brown said the problem appeared to stem from a battery fault that emerged after the team installed new auxiliary components.

The issue was rectified in time for the race, and Norris started from the front row. He led the Grand Prix and held off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, whose delayed second pit stop meant he could not mount a comeback. Norris crossed the finish line first, with Charles Leclerc second and Oscar Piastri third, securing a victory for McLaren in Monaco.

Other notable events included a brief neutralisation after Gabriel Bortoleto hit the barrier, and a drive‑through penalty for George Russell after he cut a chicane. Several drivers retired early, including Pierre Gasly after a collision with Yuki Tsunoda and Fernando Alonso with a power‑unit failure.
