Philadelphia Eagles defeat Washington Commanders in Week 1 opener

The Philadelphia Eagles secured a 24-22 victory over the Washington Commanders in their Week 1 matchup. Quarterback Jalen Hurts led the offense with 203 passing yards and three touchdowns, despite a collective offensive struggle.

Following the game, the Eagles placed three-time Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson on injured reserve due to a bone bruise in his right knee. Dickerson, who had been playing through an injury sustained during training camp, publicly criticized his own performance, stating he was a ‘complete liability’ and should not have played while unhealthy. Rookie Drew Kendall is expected to fill his role.

The Commanders face roster challenges following the loss. Head coach Dan Quinn noted mental mistakes from cornerback Mike Sainristil and expressed uncertainty regarding the availability of several injured players, including Frankie Luvu and Chig Okonkwo. Additionally, the team is evaluating potential free agent additions to address depth concerns following struggles with the offensive line.
