Landslide at Drumnahough Wind Farm site in Donegal

An investigation is underway following a landslide at the Drumnahough Wind Farm construction site in County Donegal, Ireland. The incident occurred on September 17 near Letterkenny when a rock berm—an engineered structure designed to contain excavated material—was breached.

The breach caused a large movement of land onto a lower embankment area. A spokesperson for the wind farm confirmed that no personnel were injured and that the area was immediately secured.

Construction of the €120 million, 58MW project is being managed by SSE and FuturEnergy Ireland. Works in the vicinity of the landslide have been suspended while engineers and environmental specialists conduct technical assessments to determine the cause. Precautionary measures have been implemented to protect nearby watercourses and minimize environmental impact. The Environmental Protection Agency has been notified of the incident.
