Landslide blocks Mangaluru‑Bengaluru rail line, halting services

Heavy rain triggered a landslide between Yedakumeri and Shrivagilu stations on the Mangaluru‑Yeshwantpur railway line, depositing large amounts of soil and rock onto the tracks. The blockage forced a complete halt to train traffic on the route, cancelling the Mangaluru Junction‑Yeshwantpur Express (16540) and the Yeshwantpur‑Mangaluru Junction Express (16575) and causing several other services to be short‑terminated or terminated at stations such as Hassan, Sakleshpur, Kabaka Puttur and Subramanya Road.

Southern Railway deployed a special rescue team and a relief train, along with additional excavators and workers, to clear the debris. Continuous rainfall and the risk of further slides have slowed restoration efforts, but crews are working on a war‑footing basis to reopen the line as quickly as possible.
