Landslides hit southern Blitar Regency following heavy rain
Heavy rainfall triggered two separate landslides in the Wonotirto and Panggungrejo districts of southern Blitar Regency on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The first incident occurred in Ngadipuro Village, Wonotirto, where a 10-meter-long road retaining wall collapsed, threatening local infrastructure. A second landslide occurred later that morning in Kaligambir Village, Panggungrejo, where earth and rocks from a hillside struck a residential area. The landslide damaged the kitchen of a local resident, Samirin, and placed a nearby home belonging to Supono at risk due to unstable soil conditions.
Local authorities, including the Blitar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Blitar Police, have responded to the incidents. BPBD personnel installed tarpaulins over the affected cliffs to prevent further erosion from rain. Police Chief AKBP Ardhy Zulhasbih Nasution visited the site to oversee emergency response and provide aid to the affected families. Joint teams from the military, police, and BPBD are working to clear debris from the roadsides.
