Lane Johnson retires from Philadelphia Eagles after 14 seasons
Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson has announced his retirement from the NFL after 14 seasons. A five-time All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion, Johnson spent his entire career with the franchise.
In a statement shared on social media, Johnson cited a need to focus on his mental health and personal and family priorities. “I’ve realized that my personal and family priorities in my life have changed. Right now, it is critical that I focus on my mental health,” Johnson stated.
The announcement follows a period of uncertainty regarding his availability. Johnson was unexpectedly ruled inactive for the Eagles' Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams due to personal reasons, an absence that head coach Nick Sirianni noted was communicated to him on the morning of the game. The Eagles, currently sitting at a 2-2 record, will likely look to rookie Markel Bell to fill the vacancy on the offensive line.
