Lane Johnson signals potential retirement after 2026 NFL season

Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson has indicated that the 2026 NFL season will "probably" be his last. The 36-year-old veteran, who has spent his entire 13-year career with the franchise, cited shifting life priorities and family matters, including his mother's health, as primary factors in his decision.

Johnson, a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion, recently returned to training camp after an excused absence for personal reasons. Despite a difficult 2025 season marked by a Lisfranc injury that caused him to miss the final games and the playoffs, he remains focused on protecting quarterback Jalen Hurts and contributing to a championship run in his potentially final year.

The Eagles are already looking toward the future. Rookie Markell Bell has been taking first-team reps at right tackle during training camp, providing a glimpse into how the offensive line might transition following Johnson's eventual departure.
