Lang Son police capture wanted heroin trafficking suspect

Police in Lang Son province have successfully captured Phuong Van Ky, a high-profile fugitive wanted for his involvement in a major drug trafficking ring involving 35 bricks of heroin.

Ky, born in 1983, had been hiding in abandoned camps within rugged, mountainous forest areas near the border in Na Han village. To evade authorities, he remained stationary during the day and only moved toward residential areas at night to procure food and drugs.

Authorities noted that Ky was highly vigilant and carried a loaded military firearm, expressing a readiness to resist arrest with violence. Following an intensive surveillance operation, criminal police units ambushed and apprehended him on October 4 while he was moving near the forest edge to purchase narcotics.
