Langebro bridge renovation decision sent to public consultation

The future of Copenhagen’s Langebro is undergoing a public consultation process to determine whether the bridge will remain a bascule bridge or be converted into a fixed, non-opening structure. The current bridge, dating from 1954, features a lifting mechanism that has become significantly worn.

Copenhagen Municipality has outlined two primary renovation paths: a renovation that allows the bridge to continue opening for high boat traffic is estimated to cost approximately 400 million DKK, whereas a renovation resulting in a non-opening bridge would cost roughly 200 million DKK.

Climate, Environment, and Technical Mayor Line Barfod stated that the decision has far-reaching consequences for the future of the harbor, emphasizing the importance of involving Copenhagen residents in the decision-making process before a final determination is made by politicians.
