Langeland Municipality approves budget with significant cuts

Langeland Municipality has finalized a new budget following intense negotiations triggered by a significant deficit. The municipality received only 68 million out of the 115 million kroner requested in state special grants, forcing local politicians to implement substantial austerity measures.

Planned cuts include reducing staff in after-school programs (SFO), limiting cleaning services for the elderly to once every four weeks, and the closure of a nursing home. Mayor Jørgen Nielsen described the decisions as extremely difficult, noting that the municipality must find approximately 24 million kroner in savings for the coming year and faces a requirement to find more than 44 million kroner by 2028.
