Langeland Municipality to close care center amid budget cuts
Langeland Municipality has decided to close and sell the Stigtebo Care Center to address significant budget constraints. The municipality faces a deficit of approximately 25 million DKK, and the closure of the facility is expected to save 10.1 million DKK annually through economies of scale.
Residents and relatives of those living at Stigtebo have expressed concerns regarding the impact of the closure. For many, the facility provides essential proximity to family, and there are fears regarding how the relocation will affect residents, particularly those with dementia.
In separate national news, the Danish government has announced an allocation of 500 million DKK through 2030 aimed at preventing school closures in areas experiencing declining child populations. Minister for Economy and the Interior, Pia Olsen Dyhr, stated that the initiative seeks to ensure access to safe and good schools in both major cities and rural districts.
