Langenlois wins eviction lawsuit against Schimanek family

The Regional Court of Krems has ruled in favor of the municipality of Langenlois in an eviction lawsuit against the Schimanek family regarding the Forsthaus Kronsegg. The court upheld a previous decision, rejecting an appeal by René Schimanek, who had contested his status as a primary tenant.

The property, located near the Kronsegg castle ruins, had been leased to the Schimanek family since 1976. The family's history with the site is closely linked to the Austrian far-right scene; the late Hans Jörg Schimanek senior was a former FPÖ state councilor, and his son Hans Jörg junior was previously convicted for illegal activities related to Nazi re-engagement.

The building gained significant notoriety following a November 2024 raid conducted during investigations into German separatist groups. During that raid, Nazi memorabilia was seized, and investigators alleged the site was intended to serve as a retreat for a planned ‘Day X’. Following the court's decision, the property is set to return to the municipality of Langenlois.
