Langkawi Municipal Council ordered to pay RM2.21m for paralysis incident
The Alor Setar High Court has awarded RM2,213,208 in damages to Yong Shui Tian, a man who was permanently paralysed after being struck by a falling coconut tree in Langkawi in 2019.
Justice Johan Lee ruled that the Langkawi Municipal Council was liable for the incident. The compensation includes RM389,000 in general damages, RM133,744.78 in special damages, RM1,640,463.36 for future losses and expenses, and RM50,000 in aggravated damages. The judge noted that while the money cannot restore the victim's physical health, it serves as just compensation to allow him to live his remaining years with dignity.
