Langley Forest School faces closure after license expiration
Langley Forest School is facing closure and laying off 10 staff members after Fraser Health deemed its license expired. The non-profit organization has operated as an outdoor child-care program since 2014 and reported high demand, with a full roster of 32 children booked for the 2026/27 school year.
Board president Carol LaJeunesse stated that the school attempted all available legal recourses to overturn the decision without success. The dispute stems from Fraser Health's requirement that the school utilize its indoor space more frequently. LaJeunesse noted that the health authority did not provide specific definitions or requirements regarding the amount of time or usage necessary to satisfy the mandate.
Parents of enrolled children have expressed devastation over the news, noting the program's unique impact on their children's development through outdoor-based learning.
