Langley to host annual overdose awareness vigil

The Langley Overdose Response Community Action Team (CAT) will host an annual vigil at Douglas Park on Saturday, August 29, to observe International Overdose Awareness Day. The free community event is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and aims to honor those lost to the overdose crisis, provide a space for grief, and combat the stigma surrounding drug use.

Activities include a candlelight vigil, a memorial space, naloxone training, and harm reduction resource information. The event will feature music, a Story Walk with community contributions, and keynote speaker and hoop dancer Jay Genaille. Organizer Daniel Snyder noted that the initiative seeks to encourage openness and address the impacts of a toxic drug poisoning crisis that has persisted for over a decade.
