Langley trustee candidate Norma Jean Maxwell advocated homeschooling

Norma Jean Maxwell, a candidate for school trustee with Progress For Langley, has a history of advocating for homeschooling and criticizing public education methods. A former special education assistant in the Surrey School District, Maxwell currently operates a tutoring business and works as a behaviour interventionist.

In past media appearances, Maxwell expressed dissatisfaction with the public school system, specifically regarding COVID-19 safety protocols and the quality of teaching methods. She has been associated with Lifeforce Canada, an organization that provides resources for homeschooling. Maxwell has previously stated that teachers lack practical training in how to teach children and argued that foundational skills are not being adequately taught in early grades.
