Lanús Parish Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Santiago Apóstol Temple
The Santiago Apóstol parish in Lanús Oeste, Argentina, marked the 50th anniversary of its temple’s blessing and inauguration, originally consecrated in 1976 by Bishop Desiderio Collino. A large procession featuring images of Santiago Apóstol and Nuestra Señora del Pilar moved through the neighbourhood, accompanied by Galician music and dances. The festivities culminated in a solemn Mass presided over by the current diocesan bishop, Marcelo Margni, who reflected on service and community unity.
Bishop Margni also recalled the temple’s historic opening date, linking it to the martyrdom of the beatified Wenceslao Pedernera in La Rioja. The celebration took place within the broader context of the 25‑year jubilee of the Avellaneda‑Lanús diocese, emphasizing the parish’s commitment to social outreach and solidarity.
