Lansing police investigate potential serial killer in trail deaths

Lansing police are investigating whether a serial killer is responsible for a series of deaths occurring along the Lansing River Trail in Michigan. Police Chief Robert Backus stated that investigators are looking for patterns and trends among the cases, noting that all five victims were unhoused white males between the ages of 22 and 70.

Four of the deaths appear to involve blunt force trauma to the facial area, with injuries likely sustained while the victims were lying down or sleeping during the overnight or early morning hours. One victim, Daniel Lusk, was stabbed, and a suspect has already been charged in connection with his death.

One of the recent victims, 54-year-old Gino Chouinard, died following injuries sustained on the trail; however, the medical examiner has listed the cause of death as undetermined. While police have not confirmed a single perpetrator, they are treating the cases as active investigations to determine if they are related.
